Social Structure in medieval europe
The Middle Ages era revolved around a social hierarchy called the feudal system.
Positions on the hierarchy:
THE CATHOLIC CHURCH:
In the Middle Ages Christianity became the most popular religion and that gave the Church a lot of power.
THE MONARCH:
The Monarch owned all the land in the Middle Ages and because they couldn't control it all, they gave the land to the Nobles who then paid rent and looked after it. The King was very powerful and had armies of knights at his dispense.
NOBLES:
Nobles were put in charge of an area or village by the King. In return the Nobles gave armies of Knights and money to the King.
KNIGHTS:
Knights received land and places to live from the Nobles in return for fighting wars for the King, praying for his succession and guarding and protecting the Noble and his property.
PEASANTS:
Peasants were at the bottom of the social hierarchy and received spare land allocated to them by the Nobles. Peasants had to pay rent for using the land by working their land and a Knights or Nobles as well.
